The Paddingtons : A Personal Picture Diary

The Paddingtons are set for a triumphant reunion tour that will also see them supporting long time collaborators in crime, The Libertines, on Saturday in their home town of Hull which has sold out.

Tom, Lloyd, Josh, Grant, Martin ‘Marv’ & Stuart will be coming to a city near you! Get your tickets, news and music on their Facebook page.

I had the great pleasure to spend lots of time with them - hanging and filming over the years. Check out our video for ‘Sorry’.

Here, the lads reminisce about some favourite memories from their brilliant and eclectic career as the princes of indie punk, and exclusively share them with us at The Zine in a glorious picture diary. - HM x

Josh : "Going out..."

Martin 'Marv':

"This pic is from our album shoot with Roger Sargent. We were really on to something by this point, and the floppy rabble which we had started became a much sharper and concise unit. We felt good, we looked good, we sounded good. We could be ourselves, in fact it was essential. Having that lifestyle on a daily basis was a huge privilege, if quite threatening to the sanctity of health and sanity. This photo is ace, as it is quite an out-take. Lloyd and I are being dicks (Lloyd more so), but you can see how we work. We liked fucking around, but would get the job done in the end. Hopefully without jumpers. Lloyd still causes styling issues to this day. "

Lloyd:

"This makes me laugh. It's the video shoot of 'What's The Point Of Anything New' from our second album; 'No Mundane Options'. Josh is in full on josh mode, me and Marv are just pissing ourselves at something. We alway made light of situations. Still do. I proceeded to fall of the stage and land on a massive steel barrel. It hurt. "

Martin 'Marv' : "We were in New York, and fucking jaded, frankly. These little travels were the thing that stopped me from leaving at the time, but getting there for me was a huge deal. Of course, New York wasn't the 70's cesspit which we'd have wished upon, but whilst there I felt a real affinity with the spirit of the place. I would walk around alone, and all the weird cunts would know to talk to me. I would indulge them, and they would reciprocate. This photo was taken by Bob Gruen! He just walked in backstage, Lloyd nearly melted. I didn't realise at the time, but for that guy to come and see us for a picture is massive. I enjoy telling people that he took our photo, but they usually just make me pay for my stuff and leave the checkout."

Tom :

"This pic of me playing a live show (taken by another dude who became a friend of mine, Hedi Slimane) Let's be honest, our live shows are what we are all about. Plus it's why we did all the hard work in the first place, so we could go on tour and have fun. Nothing better than playing for your fans."

Stuart :

"Me and Tom in the kitchens of the LA2 before playing FROG."

(infamous rock n roll club under The Astoria - central London used to have 2 brilliant live music venues there).

Stuart : "This is a classic!"

Lloyd : (Playing the Leftfield Stage at Glastonbury 2007). "If new wave and punk shaped me musically, socialism and the late great orator, Tony Benn, shaped me morally and politically. A great man. "

Stuart : "Germany. Again a great pic".

Stuart. Manchester:

"I love this picture because of the story. When Marv fucked his hand before the first tour and I was asked to fill in for him, he used to come on stage for the last couple of songs and we would both play the same guitar with one hand each! this is one of the only pictures showing this. Its not a great photo but I like the camaraderie sentiment considering we are now playing as a 6 piece."

Tom :

"This is our debut album cover (taken by a friend of ours, Roger Sargent). This is ace for me because it was the greatest time in our lives, in some ways. Living the dream as they say... young dudes off our heads about to release our first record. Tours all over the world with my mates."

Stuart :

"I LOVE THIS! It was taken outside the SEX shop on Kings Road, Chelsea, for a Rizla photography competition and I think it won!" - Image credit; Andy Earl andyearl.com/

Grant:

"On set for the 'what's the point in anything new' video . We managed to build a fully fledged travellers site on the outskirts of Hull, from scratch. Video also featured a cameo from Jodie 'lip' Latham of 'Shameless' fame." (image credit; Darren Rogers - Octular Art)

Stuart : "This is a killer shot of us playing Pretty Vacant with Glen Matlock from the Sex Pistols."

Grant:

"Taken in Istanbul as part of a feature for Turkish Rolling Stone magazine . The photographer allowed us to pick the location of the shots . As the serious band, this was one of many we decided on, of course." Credit unknown.

Josh : "Going home..."
