honest and gutsy. SONS rock London
"Probably one of the best bands I've seen this year".
Dublin Castle's foundations and roof will need re-laying after the phenomenal set performed by SONS.
So who are the instigators creating this fiery, explosive sound? Cutting edge Brighton brothers Lee and Nick Meldrum. Lee is lead/bass guitar and vocals. Nick is drums and backing vocals.
Although Brighton is their hometown, they are rapidly gaining a London following and the word is spreading fast. SONS ring true to my theory that simplicity can be,
quite often, more powerful.
Two musicians with a minimal set up can tear down the roof off of any venue and leave their audiences gobsmacked.
On first appearance you kind of expect a clean cut Ben Sherman-and-shades-indie style set, but lo and behold; we are deliciously surprised with a succulently filthy sound that send shivers of delight down everybody's spines. “A Love Song?” Comes in quickly with Stranglers-esque tones and crashing cymbals. These two sounds entwine perfectly. Both brothers play with attitude and deliver a brilliant song.
“Reptiles” is a hedonistic music extravaganza which unveils the diversity and talent that this duo can magic up and disperse into the crowd. Clever words and rocket fuelled vocals. The room is filled with energy and even I'm dancing now – with a touch of pogo!
“Zealot” is a favourite that stays playing in my head. This is where the double peddle really kicks in and exhales rhythmic screeching lead and concise bass. The drums are like powerful thunderbolts making this an electrifying number.
This is probably one of the best bands I’ve seen this year. I have made myself an official SONS word spreader.
Knife through the heart tattoo oh and take your shirts off and sweat it out? Nah! Rip your shirts off - feel the pounding drums and throbbing, dirty lead and bass guitar. The perfect concoction for a real punkster beat. Listen carefully to the edgy lyrics which sew together a mish mash unique sound. Mush it up, crush it up - everyone is
moving, shaking and lapping them up like greedy feral cats.
They had us in the palms of their hands? Nope, sorry, they had us in the core of their stomachs! Honest and gutsy. What you see is what you get... and do you know what? How very, very refreshing.
Watch SONS rise to the top. I feel lucky to have seen them in an intimate venue because, trust me, tickets will be instantly sold out for the big 'uns!
