Newer Wave's stealthy international take-over steps up again when LOUD WOMEN rock up New York on February 1st, the launch of LOUD WOMEN NYC at Brooklyn’s The Well – celebrating live punk rock music, powered by women (and gender non-conforming) musicians. Since 2015 LOUD WOMEN have staged hundreds of femme powered shows across Britain, including their annual festival, attracting musicians and fans from around the globe. They've showcased and boosted the profile of very many budding stars and potential cults.
Riot grrrl scenesters, Dream Nails, describe LOUD WOMEN as “our fairy punk mothers”, TheZineUK have enjoyed great adventures at these events and discovered new faves along the way, disco punk legends in waiting, Bugeye, report “Awesome crowds, amazing bands and one of the most supportive promoters you’re likely to meet”. Founder of the NYC chapter, Cady Siregar, hopes to replicate this success in New York. The launch gig will showcase three bands from Brooklyn, and two of London’s finest, flying in especially for the show: From Brooklyn: Basic Bitches (who played for Loud Women London last Spring) - garage rock riot grrrl duo
and Slut Magic - An angsty, aural make-out session, plus and Cady’s own new band. From London: I, Doris - Mummycore art pop (featuring LOUD WOMEN’s founder, Cassie Fox) and T-Bitch - Trans, queer, Riot Grrrl punk.
