James. A heritage band for Extraordinary Times

The band's brand new (15th) album, 'Living In Extraordinary Times' is being received as their best so far, in some quarters and feedback from their live shows is undeniably impressed across the board. They play International shows in November before returning to the UK (with special guests, The Charlatans), in December,
Struggling musicians, please Do NOT give up if you can keep yourself fed/housed, because James really are an extraordinary band, perfect for the surreality of modern life. As this is a tale we're telling, here is true inspiration.
Key components of the north's newer wave music industrial revolution right now. James began in 1982, found fame a decade later, transformed line ups, labels (including Factory and Rough Trade), endured complex problems and disappointing release results. They were even on a TV doc about the desperation of fallen rock stars.
They balanced the downs by being brilliant (and loved) live. Over time, they have supported The Killers, The Fall and Neil Young among MANY, and brought through support bands in their wake (Radiohead included). Live reputation gave them solid fanbase before the chart success they by financing live album, 'One Man Clapping', with a bank loan. Self belief paid off. It topped the Indie Chart.
Life still wasn't all plain sailing: From on stage fights and line up changes to wrestling back control of their music in time to be a regular charting band in the 90's Madchester movement. Their sell-out headline to 30,000 people at Alton Towers was a "moment". They were also a hit band Stateside. A movie of a rockumentary, there were more ups and downs, changes of direction, chart hits, serious injuries, farewell arena shows and a solo career for Tim Booth before James became the undeniable (multi million record selling) stars that they are these days.
In August 2018 their new album has won a whole new level of total respect. James have Come Home.
