Broken Britain needs 'Columbia'

The Blinders, 'Columbia' art, TheZineUK

The Blinders, are about to unleash 'Columbia' - a game changing debut album - on a largely unsuspecting planet.

From the windows of their soul, music that will go beyond looking you straight in the eye.

(he)ART: Sam Crowston - visualiser, videographer of Nasty Man Creations exhibits an instantly iconic image, inspired by inventive sonic adventures in dynamism.

Produced by the instinctive skills of Gavin Monaghan at his Magic Garden Studios, the power of three wove their spell - Dark. Fierce. Cosmic. Brave. - with "The Wizard Of Wolverhampton".

Articulated experience pulsing rhythmic prose and gargantuan tunes; 1. Gotta Get Through / 2. L’Etat C’Est Moi / 3. Hate Song / 4. Where No Man Comes / 5. Free The Slave / 6. I Can’t Breathe / 7. Ballad Of Winston Smith / 8. Et Tu / 9. Brutus / 10. Brave New World / 11. Rat In A Cage / 12. Orbit

Loosely based around the concept of Columbia as “an alternate world informed by reality”, The Blinders display a ferocious intelligence, as influenced by history, literature and art, as they are by Britain’s current political and economic woes. (Full release).

Anybody who has seen reactions to songs from 'Columbia' performed live, know it is not exaggeration to assure the music world that this will be a timeless, defining album.

September 21st (Modern Sky UK).

The Blinders have supported CABBAGE, Idles, The Charlatans, The View, Courteeners and more, giving everything and collecting new friends each time.

30th May 2018, the release of 'Columbia' is announced. Excited reactions from The Blinders movement included sharing the news on facebook over one hundred times within a few hours.

Above; "One-in-one-out" at Liverpool Sound City, the second festival appearance in one day (after Leeds Live). Both packed with a total of 800 people (while 'Gotta Get Through' spends it's fifth week at No.1 in Amazing Radio's Top 40 Chart). "The Blinders are here to create some history" (RockShot Magazine).

Still mostly a word of mouth/mouse (and mosh-pit) discovery, though.

"Hello? Is that Bass Demons Anonymous?"

"Story so far" digest.

Formed in 2014, The Blinders honed their presence in 2015; Sam Crowston's video from The Social, Doncaster is a clue to what's growing. Musicality earned brilliant reviews and radio play from the first public offerings in 2016 when they DIY released (with RockArt) the gothically laced 'Hidden Horror Dance' EP (Spring), then the filthy-riffed 'Swine' produced by Gavin Monaghan (October) with the pig fuck of a video by Sam. The Blinders watched it for the first time, with delighted grins, after soundcheck at their second London gig (The Roundhouse for Music Venue Trust).

To the top, Johnny Dream, to the top...

2017 DIY/RockArt releases 'Ramona Flowers' (April). The dramatic, hooky, heavy blues-dream soundtracks a live scenes short film "Introducing The Blinders As Johnny Dream & His Codeine Scene".

The anthem for dystopia's outsiders and insiders alike, 'Brave New World' arrived on the 4th of July 2017.

The Blinders signed with Modern Sky UK in Autumn. A label not afraid of guitar bands or London-centric mindset. In Winter they recorded the LP with Gavin Monaghan. Image below from Magic Garden Studios, used on Spotify.

The scene was set to blow minds in 2018.

Reactions and radio play etc support for the timely first album track releases - 'Gotta Get Through' (March) and 'L'etat C'est Moi' (May) - are highly encouraging.

The Blinders reached fresh ears in April 2018 when their Maida Vale Studios session was aired on Steve Lamacq's 6Music radio show (recently broadcast worldwide by the British Council). "Find out why everyone's talking about The Blinders" says BBC Introducing. Tom Ogden (Blossoms) and Miles Kane added their admiration for the band to that of CABBAGE, Clint Boon, Richard Jobson, The Charlatans, more...

After soundcheck, 21st February 2018, The Lexington, London.

The Financial Times (!) included The Blinders in it's "New Wave Of Guitar Bands" article, plus, an industry insider reported to Music Week that they're "One of the most exciting live bands I've witnessed in recent years".

Following the announcement of 'Columbia', SHEAFS, Queen Zee & The Sasstones, The Slow Readers Club and Jordan Allen were among musical peers publicly cheering the band's news.

Above/below, those who saw The Blinders on Sunday 27th May 2018

witnessed a "moment" at the inaugural Neighbourhood Weekender Festival.

Word is out. Comparisons, superlatives, obsessions increasing. In the calm eye of this storm lies intelligent talent. Neither leaders or followers, but an authentic counter culture flash point for our times. Even some doubters who thought that they had "seen it all" are gobsmacked with joy into submission.

Though virtually unknown to most people, for many of their fans, The Blinders are already a major band with a greatest hits set. Escapism from Broken Britain is a chapter that really begins this Autumn within the dimension of Columbia. But that's then. Live for NOW. The Blinders emit a noisy, sexy, fun and dramatic riot of pure exhilaration.

If you can't make a live show, Nasty Man Creations will bring you the latest images and videos to stay involved.
