Dantevilles; fighting talk

"I think bands, nationally, would just like to kick all the crap in the charts at the moment into touch."

Dantevilles release new single, 'The Fighter' and talk music, Manchester and more with Alexes Rogers.

Indie Rock four piece, Dantevilles, have been causing quite a storm across the North West of England with their abundance of energy and infectious melodies. They’ve already played the main stage at Kendal Calling Festival and recorded live sessions for Radio XS Manchester with Clint Boon, as well as BBC Introducing Music in Manchester.

I caught up with them for an introductory chat (plus a few beers!)

Can you tell TheZineUK readers where you're from, and how you got together?

"We’re a complex fine English mixture of Manchester, Blackburn and Northampton, but a fully-fledged Manchester band. We met in the city's student squalor that is Fallowfield, moved into a two-up two-down together and started writing and recording demos."

How did you develop your sound as a band - do you each bring unique influences?

"The sound was born through living in each other’s pockets for a couple of years, the front room was our own home studio, and we rehearsed about fifteen minutes’ walk away from the house, so always had access to our guitars and that. We didn’t really set out to create the sound you hear today at the beginning, but we always liked the idea of two lead singers. Two’s always better than one as they say! Harmony is extremely important to us, a tune without a solid harmony isn’t as exciting."

"As a Manchester based band, hailed as the next big thing, do you feel pressurised to conform to the style and sound of other successful Manchester bands?"

"I think you’re always influenced by your current situation, Manchester has so much diversity when it comes to music. You’re more inspired by the history of the place and the people’s passion for music than the current stuff that’s out there, although there is some good stuff going on."

"We’d love to take on the gauntlet of being the city’s next big thing and embrace it, take Manchester music to the next generation and hopefully be seen as being part of a unique ‘scene’ or ‘movement’ that people talk about in years to come.

I think bands nationally would just like to kick all the crap in the charts at the moment into touch."

What's the highlight of your journey together so far?

"Getting to play Kendal Calling main stage last summer was HUGE. Everything about that day was special, from loading up the van to walking on the stage. It was mint."

What's next for Dantevilles?

"More and more new music is on the way with the debut EP out on 11th May and our huge headline show at Soup Kitchen on the 1st June.

The beast has awoken from its slumber and we want everyone to join the ride."
