Jake Bugg - Live at Oxford New Theatre

In November 2017, singer, songwriter Jake Bugg embarked on his UK Solo Acoustic Tour, and on Friday 9th March 2018 brought his show to the Oxford New Theatre.

Known more for his powerful performances than his onstage banter, the audience entered the venue with great anticipation to what the night would hold. Would Jake remain in his own distant bubble, singing song after song, or would there be an acknowledgement of those there supporting him? The latter turned out to be true with Jake completely holding his own while on stage. Between songs he joked with the audience, warmly responding and encouraging the comments that were yelled.

“It’s Friday, no school!” shouted one young boy.

“Try being a musician and every day is Friday,” Jake replied with a cheeky smile prompting a round of applause from the laughing audience.

But the second he’d start singing the atmosphere of the room would change. The tipsy yells of “Marry me Jake!” were gone, it was like his performance cast a trance, and the audience was completely taken in. Throughout the night Jake performed beautifully, his indescribable talent bringing tears to the audience's eyes.

Just on his own with a guitar, he was completely exposed to the watching eyes, and he handled it like a pro, showing no signs of nerves, instead thriving off the audience's energy. He wowed them with his guitar playing, moving his hands faster then the eye could see.

As the show came to a close the audience rose to their feet, cheering, applauding, yelling terms of affection at their favourite singer and the amazing show he had put on that night. Jake Bugg took his time to walk around the stage, humbly thanking each section of the audience and then strolled off, disappearing behind the thick theatre curtains that surrounded the stage.
