Introducing.... RATS
Blowing smoke to the sky under a desolate railway bridge, graffiti on the walls, rainwater and limescale dripping by his feet, Joe Maddocks of Liverpool band Rats, adds a little colour to the grey suburban skies of his hometown in a bright blue windbreaker.
Drawn together from several well known bands such as The Ambition and Wilds, a cover of Jake Bugg's Lightning Bolt is so far the only sound to emerge from this eclectic four piece, however, having launched less than two weeks ago on January 1st, unlikely supergroup Rats are already making waves in the north.
Their music is heartfelt with Joe's husky vocals and Harry's driving rhythms coming together in a harmonious blend, a little rough around the edges, a little scruffy, as heartfelt as it is zealous and uplifting. Rats are bursting at the seams with an energy and charm intrinsic to their genre, which has already captured the hearts of their ever-growing fanbase.
Perhaps their greatest achievement to date however is the way in which they’ve managed to land themselves a support slot for one of Manchester's finest, Happy Mondays. This, Rats' debut performance together promises a volatile breakout onto the UK live scene with a blast of spinetingling Indie. With debut material scheduled for release early this year you can't fault this promising four piece on their ambition. They've the world in their sights and when they hit the stage at Jimmy's Farm in July you won’t want to be missing.
