San Blas EP Review
The amazing thing about music is how fluid it is. There are no barriers (unless you yourself apply them) and this allows the fusion of genres to come together. Infact the juxtaposition of blending one or more signature sounds is one of the next steps in the evolution of music.
A band that are certainly in the running to pioneer this new approach are the North London group: San Blas. Like some of the scientific breakthroughs over the years, San Blas is a welcoming and refreshing surprise to stumble upon! Throughout their EP, you can hear how they are finely tuned in with their souls and channel that energy, that extra push in their music. Behind each track, there's a feeling of an almost spiritual moral or message that is open for interpretation.
Like for example on the track 'Drive' with lines like "never thought I'd be on my own, there's a driving force to become introspective with self." 'Kiss From Argentina' is definitely one of my favourites on the EP. A beautiful and haunting intro on the ukulele, using a stunning C sharp harmonic minor and then the textures build like one is getting ready to do the Flamenco or Tango, the build of guitars, the percussion and excellent vocals. This track really does have you feeling like you're travelling down a stunning road in South America. I challenge you to not move
along to this track.
The vocals on every track shouts determination, energy, passion with a superflous mix of instruments working together. This band will sure attract new fans, even new people to this type of music. San Blas, have most definitely provided a tantalising new angle to music, Think you know folk music? Think you know the ukulele? Think again after hearing this group!
