Maddox - Singles Feature

If you're not involved in the current underground music scene – in some capacity- then not only are you limiting yourself, you're missing out on a really magical time for music right now. Peoples spirits are being readily uplifted with all these emerging artists offering a slightly different flavour each time.

There's that old saying about 'picking your moments' and Maddox certainly have chosen theirs. This quintet from

Hertfordshire are seizing moments and opportunities firmly with both hands, and it's beginning to show. With songs like "Count To Ten", it's easy to see why. The song describes a countdown till something happens or kicks off. Despite that, it is a lighthearted song about reminiscing, acknowledging mistakes and taking that leap of faith to get the best out of life. It's a song that reminds of you of those happy memories you've made with loved ones, and the memories you look forward to making and all the messy and uncomfortable bits in between. A realistic description of regular life and swaying with the winds.

Their other single due for imminent release, "Remember To Talk" is very nostalgic, taking you back to the early noughties when Indie was King. The chord structures and the heavy use of arpeggios, with confident and raspy vocals adding the finishing touch, gives you a divine sound that is influenced by the likes of the Maccabees and

Starsailor. What is also fitting is that the song is a conversation of reflections, observations between a couple and scoping the expectations that weren't met or surpassed.

Maddox fit in perfectly in the music scene right now and have an impressive list of support slots already More recently, having shared the stage with the likes of Gary Numan, Slaves, Nothing But Thieves and Editors at Standon Calling Festival. It's no surprise that they are continuing this impressive repertoire by supporting We Are Scientists at Nambucca (sold out now as well!) on the 3rd of November. We Are Scientists are a band who launched their musical debut right at the start of the noughties, where there was a cluster of new indie bands appearing such as The Yeah Yeah Yeah's and The Strokes, so it's quite fitting actually that Maddox have the opportunity to support a band that have made their mark and earned their legacy in indie music!
