Hackney Wonderland 2017!
Who said festivals are only for the summer season? Who knew, that you could take an inner city trip down the rabbit hole? I certainly didn't, but that's what you get with Hackney Wonderland.
It may not be a cemented festival like say Reading/Leeds or Wilkestock, but they are certainly on the right track and heading in that same direction! It's only been on for a couple of years, yet consecutively the organisers manage to have what can only be considered as an intriguing line up; something for everybody. Bit like
how London is constantly perceived by many.
Way back in 2015 they had the likes of Carl Barat & The Jackals and Dutch Uncles. 2016 they had We Are Scientists, Moses and The Shimmer Band, who are absolutely coming into their during the This Feeling AliveTour (Read about that here!). This year we see the return of some favourites, with some fantastic new additions. Here are 3 that have definitely grabbed my attention:
Electric Child House
5 man band, ECH clearly have had a lasting effect on the crowds as they are invited to play at the Oval yet again! Though to be honest, withsongs like 'Soul Sucker' and 'False Window'; it's pretty easy to see why. Yes, they are a rock and roll band but they are approaching the genre from a completely new angle which always attracts new listeners. They know their sound, they know their vibe and it carries in their performances. Their debut EP 'Goochie Goochie Goo' has also received raving reviews. So bring your rhythm and your friends and get ready to dance!
Sisteray
These guys within the last year, have gone from strength to strength and are finally starting to see their hard work pay off big time! They managed to snap up key festivals this year via This Feeling/Jack Rocks.
They have even recently launched their club night in Paris and make time to play in gigs that are purely raising money for charities like Mind and Musicians Against Homelessness. Their 5 track EP '15 Minutes' is receiving critical acclaim, and new music will be with us soon. Not only that, when you go and see them live, you are guaranteed to be pumped with attitude, assertiveness and a political rebellion which speaks to so many in the community right now. You can't say you're attending Hackney Wonderland, without hearing this band, period.
Faers
I first heard this band when they were supporting YVES at the Sebright Arms a few years back. I was instantly gripped by the way they infuse the psychedelic, with the indie in a perfect and symbiotic way. I'm not exaggerating when I say when you hear them live, their performance is so smooth. Through their presence, their sound, the vocals,it all exhudes a self assurance that has you moving whether you want to or not. They even managed to bag a cheeky spot on an episode of Made In Chelsea, and have recently released a single'Last Of Our Kind'. Hearing
them will have you also thinking about all the fun we've had this summer, and how somehow we are going to top that when summer comes round again next year. So just as well they're on the line up really!
