Good #VibesOnly
When Reprezent's Kayo invited a group of people to The Zine's music social back in August, he told us we just HAD to meet them. They were some of the members of Vibes Only, and Kayo was right.
It perhaps would be easily to dismiss these guys at first glance as one more hip hop group, but you'd most definitely be wrong. Priding themselves on producing Good VibesONLY, and creating a new sound that has really pushed me to describe, I could write loads about each one of them but since I would only be distracting you from the music, I'll stick to a brief introduction and let the sound speak for itself.
Collective creator TJ Tucker is easily the most charismatic of the group - and if Punk had it's New Wave era, then he is post- hip hop. He seamlessly mixes UK Urban with US Hip Hop. He's a radio favourite having been played
multiple times on Shoreditch Radio & BBC Essex as well as Kayo's own Represent. His track FreakyFriday being on radio playlists for the last four months, and rightly so.
OWLH is a perhaps accidental situationist, creating cross genre sounds which are designed more to take you on a journey than to make you feel entirely comfortable - and that's no bad thing, as tracks like 'Loving You Right' stand out as music doing that it's supposed to - making you feel.
Sadman E is the pioneer of Sad Rap which is somehow UK garage, hip hop and everything in between. There's an intelligence to his music that perhaps a lot of better known artists lack, and that is of course a good thing. His last track BROKEBOI (Produced by OWLH) is both one to please the old school and convert the new.
Wanna catch the live experience? They're at PATTERNS Brighton on the 3rd October. London friends can catch them at Kings Cross Surya on the 20th October (we'll see you there.)
