The Lexington has always been one of my favourite intimate venues to see bands and solo performers. It was definitely the perfect setting for the very unique and talented Andrew King otherwise known as 'Band of King'.
Band of King's roots stem from busking and working with his three piece band all over London. An enthusiastic biker, Andrew is a true rocker with a cool look and sound to blow everyone away!
There is a true sense of his blues and rock influence. He also adds that Jack White, Kings of Leon and Jimi Hendrix are also very influential and have played a major part in his own music creations.
There's a real Memphis style in his playing and a Hendrix sharpness that jumps out of his guitar.
Just him, sat on a box, with a drum pedal attached to the base. To his left, a tom drum he sawed in half and added another pedal. "I love making my own instruments" he tells me enthusiastically. Mixed in with his phenomenal guitar playing, we have a three way wickedly awesome sound that he plays flawlessly. Vocally his voice crowns the whole get-up and we are treated to a magical performance.
Band of King will be performing next:
Thursday 10th August
The Brownswood, London N4 2EX
Friday 11th August 9pm
The Old Tigers Head, Lewisham, SE13
