The Winachi Tribe ' Save The George' 27 May

On Saturday May 27th 2017, The Winachi Tribe and friends - including Ace Wilson and DJ Nineties Mike (This Feeling) will play a special show to join the fight to SAVE THE GEORGE TAVERN (London E1)

"The Winachi Tribe are buzzin our Northern knackers off to be headlining 'The George Tavern', one of London's most loved, iconic venues. Especially with it being a 'Save The George' event it makes it that bit more special. It makes us sick to see these historic venues up and down the uk being closed down...the majority of the time turned into flats or fucking Lidl supermarkets!!! These days you do a gig somewhere...go back a few months later and it's been turned into a 'Greggs Bakery'...unbelievable!!! We're honoured to be playing this night and to have it as the first date on our 'A Room With A Zoo' tour"

"There’s a confidence and power to the band’s live set that at times can be mesmerising. You can’t help but feel you’re witnessing a band that could be on the verge of something extremely special" (VIVA Magazine)"There are just a handful of bands in my life that make me enjoy every song on a single album, and The Winachi Tribe have added themselves to that exclusive list." (L.A Times)

Landlady and owner, Pauline Forster, has been at the forefront of this campaign for the last six years which is backed by a host of celebrities including Kate Moss, Grace Jones, John Cooper Clarke, Tom Daley, Ricky Wilson, Plan B, and Sir Ian McKellen.

"The George is a genuine east London treasure. Geoffrey Chaucer name-checked the original tavern on the site in ‘The Canterbury Tales’. It’s been there for hundreds of years and it’s a still a great pub, mostly thanks to Landlady Pauline's efforts. However, Swan Housing Group wants to build flats right next door, and any tenants who move in may not take kindly to living next to a pub that hosts live music or DJs most nights of the week. Complaints by the George’s new neighbours could lead to the venue losing its live music licence, and being forced to close.” (Time Out)

"I have been drinking in The George and the attached nightclub since I was a teenager, various friends and family members some of whom are no longer around have enjoyed a drink or two in this beautiful old pub over the years. When I heard there was a chance another place where I spent my youth was in danger of a shutdown it was very upsetting. Someone told me about Pauline's "Save The George" Campaign I knew I wanted to help.

I asked The Winachi Tribe if we could start their summer tour with a show to raise some money for another East End institution thats under threat from developers they agreed without hesitation. Although hailing from the North of England they consider themselves honorary Cockneys because they are always treated to that special East End hospitality whenever they play "on the Manor" Looking forward to an unbelievable night at one of the last remaining old east end pubs."

Harry Brigden, The Winachi Tribe, Manager

“We need to call time on the destruction of our music and culture breeding grounds. Join the fight. Come and let’s enjoy some brilliant music for a great cause”
