Are you Dead! Yet?
Between the haze of a free bar, the free food and Carl Barat's effortless cool - There was wondering of how things could get better when The Zine Team rolled up to Pirate Studios a few weeks ago. We were of course, not expecting to be blown away (with the force of a Dyson hand dryer - seriously, those things are lethal) by the support act which strutted out to confront us that evening.
Ironically, Dead! are full of loud grunge-punk energy live, the kind of energy that sucker-punches you with the desire to dance like an idiot tripping on speed and it is glorious. They are Nirvana meets Thee Headcoats with something in between that is neither. Here is a band who you can tell are having as much fun on stage as you're having around it. A band with no pretences... Just gritty, dirty rock n roll at its best.
Best of all, Dead! are gloriously DIY, just the way we like our bands here at The Zine UK. They have their own online Zine "BURN THE PRESS" which proudly declares on page one, Issue one "Like all dictatorships, the music industry is run under a totalitarian regime. Get used to it." They play fan club only events, film and produce their own music videos and are quickly becoming UK festival darlings.
