Restaurant Review: Miusan, Camden
Miusan is a new addition to the colorful, overcrowded tourist haven and iconic Camden, located on Inverness Street. The restaurant has an incredible atmosphere of Blade Runner meets the present times, a dark space noir feel, a medley of neon, orchids, fake candles and dark red. A rather flashy decor yet a welcome break from the typical and now humongous minimal decor presently fashionable.
The food was in some ways the exact opposite of the decor, flavors so comforting and thick to remind you of home. On our visit there the starters were small for the price yet juicy and heavy, having ordered the finger licking jasmine tea smoked ribs which were thankful uncrowned in sauce or topping. Alongside that the Japanese-esque tempura king prawn and squid with a good side sauce of tamarind guava balancing the salty fried flavors was a great way to start.
For mains we received the Zhunhai pork belly, a combo of succulent and crispy with rice topped with fried bits of garlic to accompany. As vegetarian choices go the restaurant lacks variety but offers a steadfast and comforting Clay-pot tofu dish as a main that was heavy on enjoyable vegetables. The restaurant offers an impressive and creative list of cocktails that we did not sample as it was a little too early for that strong of a tipple. The restaurant is a great place to impress or to splurge before a performance in the area which offers impressive service and food.
We found out about this recent opening through an excellent resource called Hot Dinners, which is an online reference to all restaurant and bar openings in London, as well as reviews.
