“...pushing the boundaries both musically and culturally to deliver a sound, a style and performance very unique and special.” (Louder Than War). These shows promise being worth witnessing.
On Friday 18th November, The Winachi Tribe release 'A Room With A Zoo'. Their new single is laced with references of Tom-Tom Club and New York art bands.
The accompanying ten minute short by Oxford Street Films, which started as a simple music video, was made over 48 hours in Los Angeles and Malibu. It was directed by Californian based, Manc ex-pat film maker, Trevor Miller and produced by the bands's manager, Harry The Dog, whose entertainment industry showcase event hits London on the aformentioned mini tour.
The surreal, ayahuasca fuelled, mystical journey has elements of The Man Who Fell To Earth. The Mancunian peer influences of Ken Loach and Factory Records are also there.
The Winachi Tribe are lyrically explosive musicians and producers who have collaborated, toured with and impressed diverse artists including Ian Brown and Danny Saber.
This sonic soul collective adhere to no boundaries or formulas, musically or culturally, and bring a following, rich in creatives and performers in their story of international repute; “There are just a handful of bands in my life that make me enjoy every song on a single album, and The Winachi Tribe have added themselves to the list” (LA Times)
TheZineUK caught their inception last January at a Central London Playhard Live Music event, a packed out schmooze with legendary photographer, David Montgomery, among the faces in attendance as The Winachi Tribe were born, live on stage. They went down the proverbial storm and have come on in leaps and bound since, including major supports and festival slots. Recently live in session for BBC Introducing Manchester, they've also just signed an Asian/Chinese record deal. “We are on the edge of a hybrid soul/northern soul explosion. I think it will, for want of a better word, be the new punk. The Winachi Tribe’s tune fits into the picture perfectly. Bring it on!” (Keith Allen)
