Trash City Radio

Exeter. Movement of Jah People. Or something like that.

My love of touring adventures has a soft spot for The Cavern live music venue and, therefore, Exeter. TheZineUK has a firm belief in the musical sub cultures and DIY spirit - #Britz16 - of this pivotal year and that is reflected in another cool music treasure of that city, Trash City Radio.

In the eye of every day life's growing storm, we see clearly that DIY is (austerity inflected) streets ahead of the mainstream game in soundtracking it.

The creative collectives colluding and colliding and the high calibre of their multi tasking talent is already having an impact on the near future.

Independent (ex)UK broadcasting from the likes of Joyzine, The Glass Collectors and The GigSlutz Girls on Hoxton Radio (to name just a few) is very much part of the underground rising in these times of necessary escapism. You need all the media, with a mind of it's own, that you can get. Artists need all the support they can muster to be heard. Trash City Radio Show seemed a key radio show to mention newcomers, The Velvet Hands to.

The punky, Cornwall based, newer wave band had just played their first London headline for us this Spring, and really raised the roof with an energy pulsing from both the stage, and the crowd moshing on the dance floor. Bursting with excitement, who ya gonna call? Well, not Ghostbusters. Not seen them in a small music venue. Nah. One of the people that sprung to mind is in Devon, the nearest county; Joe Rebel. That’s who.

Here’s the juice from Joe himself;

"I have been doing the show for quite a few years, and it's gained a good little worldwide listener-ship.

Trash City Radio is community based, and paid for by presenters, donations and fund raising shows.

There's no playlist rubbish.

I play whatever i want, which can range from 50s rockabilly, punk, reggae, soul, glam, indie, and new stuff."

Trash City Radio Show, is broadcast every Tuesday between 6pm-8pm GMT
