GOOD KARMA new music club launches the best bands monthly

Thursday 28 January 2016, Abbie McCarthy (BBC Introducing) launches Good Karma with CHILDCARE, THE SHERLOCKS & The Bay Rays live on stage.

“a night where music lovers all come to hang out, hear excellent music and just have a laugh.”

The Islington, 10 Toldpuddle Street, London N1 0XT. Entry is just £5 and this is a great place for such a club - an independent music bar with a #NoMusicNoLife motto.

The brainchild of BBC Introducing presenter Abbie McCarthy, Good Karma Club is a new live music night, in collaboration with Killing Moon, taking place on the last Thursday of each month. Promising exciting, eclectic line-ups curated by Abbie herself, the night is going to be a chance to see excellent artists in an intimate setting before they go on to sell out huge venues up and down the country.

For the launch party, Abbie has announced an unmissable line-up featuring some of her tips for the future.

Headlining are Childcare, whose catchy indie anthems are extraordinary live, given the nature of their unpredictable, captivating front man Ed. This finely crafted stick of musical dynamite, Omega Grey, will feature on a soon to be released EP called (wonderfully) "You have it so easy but you don't even realise, do you, you idiot?"

The Sherlocks are two sets of brothers from Sheffield. With their incredible recent single ‘Heart of Gold’ a favourite with both BBC Radio 1 and 6 Music, they are set to be your new favourite band too. TheZineUK team have had an ear on them as #futurepicks since early last year, so were keen to catch up with their latest news (further on in this article).

The Good Karma Club launch party line-up is completed by The Bay Rays - three young lads from Kent, who recently supported both Slaves and The Bohicas. They make punchy rock ‘n’ roll tunes which they have been touring around the UK. Tonight is their first London show, so arrive early for one of your “I was there” moments, music fans!

So then, three fantastically fancied live sets on one bill is the way to arrive in 2016, which is already celebrating 40 Years of punk. Talking about the event, Abbie said “I can’t wait for it to get started - we’ve got a couple of incredible line-ups sorted already, it’s going to be a lot of fun!”. Looking and sounding like somebody who very much enjoys her passion for music, above all, Abbie just wants “Good Karma Club to be a night where music lovers all come to hang out, hear excellent music and just have a laugh”.

That sounds right up our street! Just to prove how cool this whole bill are, we caught up with Kieran Crook, front man of The Sherlocks at the start of what is set to be a massive year for the band.

TheZineUK : “A lot has happened for The Sherlocks over the past twelve months or so, what are the band's personal highlights?"

Kieran : "There has been many, however I think we would all agree Leeds festival was a massive highlight. The crowd was unbelievable. Packed out tent at 12:00 in the morning! Also we sold out the Leadmill main room, as well as recently doing the main room in The Plug.

We recently released our third single 'Heart of Gold' which has gone down a storm and has some great radio air play from the likes of Steve Lamacq, Huw Stevens, Phil Taggart, Greg James, Annie Mac, and the head of Radio 1, George Ergatoudis, also tweeted us: 'This band have got it' ...which is pretty mental!!

That's just to name a few things..."

(if that's just a few, you can imagine how much fun 2015 was for them). We've noticed a burst of artistic energy over the last few years, from what has always been one of popular music's great cities. TheZineUK "What the **** is in the water in Sheffield? It's tunetastic right now!"

Kieran: “I know. The music scene seems to be picking up a bit, and more bands are coming up,which is great! That's how it should be, be great to see some more in the mainstream of music."

Which is where this band are definitely heading. TheZineUK : "What does 2016 already have in store for The Sherlocks (who are also tipped in the This Feeling / Fred Perry Subculture Top 50 of 2016)?"

Kieran : "We are going to release another single very soon ...which we can't wait for! We are also supporting The Libertines on their arena tour - which is just crazy. That should be fun. We are going on our biggest tour yet up and down the country which is basically from the end of January to the end of February. That will be carnage! Tickets are on sale now at http://thesherlocksmusic.co.uk - Many of the gigs are extremely close to selling out so we are really excited for that! There are literally loads of things planned, and even more in the pipeline... however we can't say at the minute, but all will be revealed."

____________

May the force of Good Karma be with us all. Wow, what a way to launch!
