es-SEX n Rock'n'Roll, Friday Night. Traitors Gate, Grays.

#new #rock #music Mourning Birds, Figures, Panama Sunrise

A New Music Scene, A New Hope and a New Proper Night Out - Seeya there?

EsSex might as well just shorten its name to Sex right now. Anywhere appreciating the raw bluesy rock of The Midnight Barbers, Muertos and Mourning Birds or the glam tinged formidable femme fronted Scarlet Echo is a rock n roll central in these Broken Britain times. (We hear good things of local up n comers, Figures and Panama Sunrise, (firstly from Golden Cage Media, then from Soundcloud!) - seems like a good time to stretch that Oyster Card then. Team Zine loves an adventure.

Video; 'Exile', opening track of 'Mourning Birds' album (hear it on Spotify) in session for Abbie McCarthy/BBC Inroducing Kent. Garage blues noise punks. “Imagine the illegitimate lovechild of Jack White being raised by The Ramones” (Propaganda). On Friday, the band will be joined on stage by Rhys Downing, (who produced their album, and has also worked with The Subways, Pete Doherty, Bruno Mars), playing guitar.

Essex. What?

10th October, Muertos (who sound like they'd burst into flames if they set foot in a church), reporting back from their Chelmsford show tweeted: @muertosband “@midnightbarbers killed it tonight at @BassmentBar Me thinks live music is getting better around these parts.”

Video; 'Damascus'. Been catching this band on numerous occassions as they develop. The British Rock is becoming increasingly hard to argue with bands like The Midnight Barbers in the vanguard.

This is not just us following up The Zine's August article, then. Our beloved Nova Twins played Standon Calling Festival recently and won the ear of the local BBC Introducing show presenter, Ollie. Local musicians are starting something. With some of the team based in South East London, we are close to the Essex/Kent musical activism and keeping an ear on the local promoter recommendations. Sorry London, gonna need to keep your game up.

Buzzing Best New Bands are coming in through @TraitorsGatePub free rock shows. Friday 16th October with Mourning Birds joined by two of the new, recommended Essex recommendations; Figures (who release a debut EP 'Unravel' in November) click to hear NScessity demo a daring twist of prog in their alternative rock sound and Panama Sunrise (who also have a debut EP - click to hear it - making this particular live music event feel like the seeds of something very special indeed).

16 October, 8pm. 40-42 The Broadway, Grays, Thurrock RM17 6EW - Facebook Page.

The following week, Dead Belles return from an Amsterdam show to rock Traitors Gate on 24th October. We tried to walk past New Cross Inn a month ago, but they were too good and now The Zine are fans of this rock band (hear here!) too! They are support to another tipped-as-feck headliner, The Spills, (video for 'A Film And A Frame', below'. This emerging Leeds band call into Grays on their UK album release tour.

Coming in November; Scarlet Echo; (this bootleg live video from Brentwood Festival 2015 - caught these a couple of years ago at Dashwoodstock and was impressed by their potential.
